Green Storeys : Sustainable by Design

The will to live differently needs to start somewhere. There is a constant need to re-look at growth that affects the social and regional patterns of a city. It is imperative to look at strategies that help us use less and produce more. It’s crucial to be Sustainable by Design.

The idea begins with a need to develop a series of Eco-Cities which on a micro level, function on its own, are re-generative and demand less energy from the system. ‘Green Storeys’ is one such attempt.

Occupying a strategic position in the area of Sarjapur, the two towers grow from Sunken Gardens into the sky, with each one blending into a series of staggered green levels.

With Energy Efficiency being a forefront of the design, the entire master plan emerges out from the investigation of the Wind Patterns, Solar Movements and considering the Seasonal Changes. With 135 apartments ranging between 2 & 3 Bedroom, the project offers an array of design possibilities for the end user’s.

The design program is organized vertically, with the lower levels (basement) being used for parking, the ground level being used as leisure/social space where a series of activity-oriented functions exist, including productive landscapes. Moving up, the levels are structured as a stack of residences which are efficiently designed to extend the exterior topography to the levels of the interiors through a series of Vertical Greens.

The Geometrical definition of the exteriors is derived from the essence of going green vertically and is accentuated by a large void in the center. The Double Height Void (in each building) integrates the relationship of the site into a Green Mass which would also trigger social interactions and community living.

The Façade seamlessly incorporates sun & rain screening using vertical fins, whilst ensuring that the qualities of the interior spaces and the outer appearance of the building together form a unifying whole.

The underlying focus of the project is to integrate the ideas of Contemporary living with Greener Technologies and breed into a series of ‘Eco Cities’.

Project Fitment & Specifications

Structure: RCC framed structure with light weight blocks/blockwork for walls along with cement plaster.

Flooring: Fine Full Body Vitrified Tiles of Regent/Equivalentin 600mm x 600mm for all the Internal Floor Areas, with perfectly Selected Wooden Flooring in the Master Bedrooms. Bathrooms in Matt Finish / Lappato Finish Tiles with Wall Cladding in Equivalent finish and feel.

Bathrooms: All Bathroom fixtures and fittings from American Sanitary ware ‘KOHLER’/Equivalent. Water supply for internal lines with CPVC pipes and for external water supply & drainage UPVC pipes.

Doors: Main Doors in Good Quality Flush Door shutter with Polished Veneer front, and Solid wood Frames with excellent quality hardware. Internal Door shutters in Flush Door with a matching Factory pressed Laminate / Enamel paint / Equivalent and Solid Wood Frames with excellent quality hardware.

Windows: UPVC Windows with Glazing for all the windows with Mosquito Mesh.

Painting: Asian/Equivalent Paints Premium Emulsion for all the Interiors and Apex/Equivalent Exterior Emulsion for all Exterior Applications.

Kitchen: Counter top platform in Granite as per Architects selection, with stainless steel sink. Tiling upto 2’0 above the Counter top in both the areas.

Electrical & Lighting: All Switches from ‘Legrand’/Equivalent with wiring from RR Cables/Equivalent.

KEB Power: 3 KVA for 2 BHK & 4 KVA for 3 BHK.

DG Backup: 2 KVA for each flat at additional cost.

The Award saw registrations from 54 countries and 12 esteemed judges across the globe, and was the largest Architectural Sustainability award event in the world for 2014.
